I have posted several stories on our family’s journey experiencing retail inflation, officially at 2.3% by government reports. The reality is miles from government reports, as is today’s example.
McDonalds is officially removing their Dollar Menu as costs increases prohibit the fast food supplier keeping products within the $1.00 price structure. Today as I requested $1.00 fries the order board posted “small fries” at $1.29. Folks that are a 29% one time jump in retail price structure.
I am unaware of anyone receiving a 5%, 10% 20% and especially a 29% payroll increase during 2012. Even Wall Street hot shots, managers are receiving wage reductions in 2012. Yet retail costs, especially any food related consumer goods, continue rising at rates 10 to 30 times faster than incomes. People do not need to purchase birthday cards, new computers, Post It notes, furniture, those purchases are a choice, but food (excluding McDonalds) is a necessary life consumer purchase.
