5/20/11 The Truth About $32,000,000,000.00

I have had several key liberty Republicans take issue with my pushing the March 19, 2011 CD-5 proclamation on spending limits that unanimously was accepted and directed to deliver to Republican leadership in St Paul. Maneuvering by CD-5 leadership and Republican Party leadership voided any value of the proclamation.

One specific 2010 candidate took special umbrage for my suggestion candidates and the Republican Party ran on a $32,000,000,000.00 general fund last year. Today I received a Minnesota Republican Party email stating that very fact of running on $32,000,000,000.00. Here is the vindication for all the flack I personally received from fellow Liberty Republicans. Leadership requires being in the front line at times, showing truth and principle.

The word of the day when it comes to media reporting on budget negotiations is “compromise.” Gov. Dayton is playing the compromise card big time and the media is regurgitating the DFL line. The implication is if Republicans were “reasonable” they would meet the governor halfway and “compromise” on a balanced approach of spending cuts and tax increases. We’ll be addressing this with the media, but I want to fill you in on how the Republican Party views the concept of “compromise.”

First, we feel we have already moved in the governor’s direction. Republicans campaigned on a $32 billion budget and moved to $34 billion only after the revenue forecast came in better than expected. Speaker Zellers called $34 billion the GOP’s “last best offer” and the Republicans in the legislature are sticking to their guns.
